Statement

Jason Wallace is a fine art photographer of natural landscapes.

- Vast landscapes extend forever and invite the viewer to explore.
- Atmospheric effects activate the space with unique transient qualities.
- Physical structures represent the human element; our mark on the world.

Process

The artist is simply an observer. He does not interact with the scene.

However, camera equipment alone might not be capable of fully realizing the artist's visualization, and such images require further development.

To reflect upon the digital process, Jason has modified a classic quote from Ansel Adams: "The RAW file is the composer's score, and the computer is the stage for the performance."

Software:
Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.

Cameras:
Nikon Coolpix 990 (2001-2004), Nikon D70s (2004-2009), Nikon D300s (2010-present).

Lenses:
Tokina 12-24mm F/4, Nikon 18-200mm, Nikon 50mm F/1.8, and Nikon 35mm F/1.8.

History

Watching his father develop prints in the home darkroom is one of Jason's earliest memories involving photography. His father taught at several schools over a span of thirty years, and one of the constants was having to teach the Yearbook class for nearly each one. This even led to one room of the home being transformed into a darkroom. When the time came, Jason instinctively worked in the darkroom for his father's class. (see image above)

Jason's earliest experience with computer technology also starts in his childhood, when he would occasionally play games on his father's Commodore 64. At that time, it was inconceivable that such a system would become powerful enough to process photographic imagery.

The amber glow of the darkroom and the blue glow of the computer screen were two of the contant elements from his childhood, as he and his family relocated every few years.

His career is peppered with IT-related positions, yet in 2003 he earned a BFA in Studio Art from Oklahoma State University. He now works as a Systems analyst for OSU. Jason's brain is where technology, photography, and a strong sense of wanderlust combine to create location-based imagery.

Print only - Each print is held to a backing using photo corners. Only the photo corners are attached; the print remains loose. (If framing on your own, dry-mounting is highly recommended for sheets longer than 24".)

Framed images - Each print is dry-mounted to the backing, which prevents buckling. The front uses a single white mat, cut 1/2" larger in every direction to expose the title & signature along the bottom. Each frame uses non-glare UV protective glass.
